New Bangor University and Grŵp Llandrillo Menai policing degree will go live from 2019/20
From September 2019, Bangor University in partnership with Grŵp Llandrillo Menai (GLLM) will offer an undergraduate degree in Professional Policing which is licensed by the College of Policing. This will introduce students to the skills required to work as a police officer and is building on the highly successful Foundation Degree in Policing that has been offered for some years by GLLM.
Maggie Griffiths, Assistant Principal at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai said:
“This new partnership has enabled our two organisations to develop this exciting new undergraduate degree opportunity, combining the extensive academic and practical policing skills of our combined staff.
“The programme is designed to meet the needs of applicants living in the north Wales area and beyond, and to give a robust underpinning knowledge, skills and experience to those aspiring to become police officers.”
Professor Oliver Turnbull, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Bangor University said:
“This BSc in Professional Policing builds on our strengths in research in policing and criminology and criminal justice, and is supported by Grŵp Llandrillo Menai’s practical policing expertise.
“We are looking forward to welcoming the first student in September 2019, and we’re particularly pleased to be adding another promising undergraduate programme to our portfolio of jointly delivered degrees.”
Police training is changing across Wales and England as a result of a new programme set out by the College of Policing and the National Police Chiefs’ Council. This transformation is achieved in part through the introduction of the Policing Education Qualifications Framework, which equips new police recruits with the right skills to adapt to the professional complexity of modern day policing including the changing nature of crime and demands on police services.
This degree is open to all, and students interested in applying can find more information here.
It is important to note that this degree does not guarantee the opportunity for recruitment into the police service and those planning a career in the police are advised to check eligibility criteria set out by individual police services.
