North Wales Tech meetup at Bangor University
Recently over 13 companies, 40 students, University staff and members of the public met together at Bangor University, to discuss ideas and share experiences. The meetup was organised by North Wales Tech and the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering. Six invited speakers talked about their work, on topics ranging from environmental visualisation and simulation on the Supercomputer Wales platform, the use of CSS to create interactive graphics, and how machine learning can be used to detect bats.
Carwyn Edwards said “It was great coming back to Bangor for this event. We started North Wales Tech four years ago and launched it at the School of Computer Science Bangor University. We are privileged to be able to help North Wales technology companies connect with researchers and academics from the University and it was good to meet up with old and new friends from a wide range of different companies”.
The evening was enjoyed by over 50 participants.
Professor Jonathan Roberts said “These events are fantastic. They are a great opportunity to strengthen relationships between academia, students, industry and the local community. Connections with industry allow us improve the future employability opportunities of our students through collaborations, placements, internships, and direct employment. But also scope for research projects”
We’re looking forward to working more closely with North Wales Tech as well as the local community and business. The next event we’re planning to hold is a retro gaming event with the opportunity to build your own retro style game.
