Pontio opening postponed until 2015
Following recent announcements regarding the delay in the opening of Pontio, and a further review of the building schedule, Bangor University regretfully has to announce that there will be no productions staged at the building until 2015.
Bangor University’s Vice-Chancellor Professor John G. Hughes said: “Following detailed discussions with the contractor I have taken the difficult and painful decision to postpone the artistic programme scheduled in the Pontio building until February.”
“I fully recognise everyone’s disappointment at this further delay, but given the delays in the building schedule to date we have no other choice.
“The building was due to be completed in sections, with the first section to be ready by August 22nd, however we are still waiting for this work to be finished.”
Everyone who has bought tickets for performances will receive a full refund. In addition, to compensate for the inconvenience, customers will be given a £5 gift voucher to use against any other performance in the Theatre. Those that have purchased tickets for the Pontio Opening Gala featuring Bryn Terfel will receive a refund, and will be given priority to purchase tickets for a new Gala event. Pontio box office staff will be in touch with customers directly.
Pontio is relocating Theatr Bara Caws’ production of Garw, this October and is working on relocating events organised as part of the Gwyl ‘My Friend Dylan Thomas’ Festival. Performances organised at other University venues will continue as planned.
Professor Hughes added: “We would like to thank ticket holders and all the performing arts companies for their cooperation and we very much share their disappointment.
“As has been said before, there are lessons to be learnt from this, but our priority is on working with the contractor, Miller, to complete the building and deliver a high quality artistic opening programme. As building work develops, we will make further announcements.”
