Scholarship for Poet
A senior lecturer from Bangor has received a scholarship to complete his first book of poetry.
Dr Jason Walford Davies, the School of Welsh, is among the new writers who will receive a scholarship from Literature Wales this year.
The New Writer Scholarship worth £ 4,000 will allow Jason Walford Davies take some time away from his academic work to concentrate on his poetry.
Jason Walford Davies is already acclaimed poet, having won the Newport National Eisteddfod Crown in 2004 with his poem 'Egni', a poem commemorating the Miners' Strike of the eighties.
Jason said he was looking forward to the opportunity to finish his first book of poetry, which will include a number of poems responding to artworks and photographs.
"Creative writing is an important part of the profile and coverage of the School of Welsh at Bangor," said Jason. "The Scholarship means that I can focus on an extended number of poems, and publish the book at some point in 2013."
In terms of research, Jason Walford Davies’ primary interests are medieval Welsh literature and the twentieth century, and Welsh Literature in English. He has published extensively on the work of R. S. Thomas and is Co-Director Centre for Research R. S. Thomas at Bangor University.
