Student Nursing Times Award Shortlists
Bangor University’s School of Healthcare Sciences is delighted that one of our midwifery students, Jonathan Cliffe, has been shortlisted as a Finalist in the 2015 Student Nursing Times Awards. Jonathan is one of seven student midwives from across the United Kingdom in the Student Midwife of the Year Category.
This year saw a recording breaking year with more than 400 talented student nurses, education providers, and mentors entering the competition. The awards acknowledge students who “go the extra mile” to enhance services and the experiences of fellow students. As a Student Representative, and as Founding Chair of the Bangor University Midwifery Society, Jonathan has been instrumental in raising the profile of midwifery education within the Region and across Wales.
Professor Jo Rycroft Malone, Head of School, commented, “I am delighted that the outstanding contribution that Jonathan has made to student life within the School has been recognised in this way. We wish him well for the award ceremony in May”.
The School is also delighted that two of the health services that provide placements for our nursing students in North Wales have also been shortlisted. Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board’s Plas Madoc District Nurses are one of eight clinical services or teams shortlisted for the award of Community Placement of the year. Chirk Community Hospital’s Ceiriog Ward is one of eight placements shortlisted in the hospital placement category.
Professor Rycroft Malone went on to say that “the School of Healthcare Sciences and Health Board collaborate closely to ensure that our students learning and clinical experience is of the highest quality. It is particularly good to see two clinical placements which influence and inspire our nurses of the future recognised in this way”.
The winners of the Student Nursing Times Awards 2015 will be announced on 7 May at the London Hilton on Park Lane.
