Top 100 for Teaching
Bangor University appears among the top 100 European Universities in the latest university ‘league table’ to be published.
The Times Higher Education (THE) University Teaching Ranking is the first university league table to focus solely on teaching and learning and is based on the THE’s first European Student Survey and on other available data.
The table ranks universities according to ‘teaching prowess’ and, with Bangor University the only Welsh University to be Awarded Gold in the first round of Teaching Excellence Framework, it’s no surprise that the University is among the leading universities providing the best learning environment for students.
Bangor University scored highly (90.8%) for environment, reflecting the University’s inclusive environment and students’ engagement with their studies and their lecturers, the opportunities to develop skills and students’ views on the quality of services at the University.
Bangor University also scored highly for engagement and resources, reflecting the University’s ethos of caring for its students and providing a quality educational experience.
Commenting on the latest League Table, Vice Chancellor, Professor John G Hughes said:
“This latest League Table recognises the excellent education and outstanding student support that our students enjoy. We focus on providing opportunities for our students to learn and gain valuable career-enhancing experiences while studying here.”
Professor Oliver Turnbull, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Teaching & Learning at Bangor Universityadded:
“This is another endorsement of our activities. We have long been renowned for providing not only excellent teaching but also student support, and these results yet again reflect this. The data should also be really valuable for prospective students, who will make decisions about University places over the next few weeks."
Recent graduate Liam John Evans, 21 a former pupil of Ysgol Bod Alaw and Ysgol y Creuddyn from Old Colwyn, is now a journalist with BBC Radio Cymru.
According to Liam, Bangor was a natural choice for him. He said:
"I knew that Bangor was the institution with the best academic schools for the subjects I wanted to study and, on top of that, it is a beautiful place with the best Welsh-language culture in Wales."
"The new post with BBC Radio Cymru means that I spend a lot of time out in the communities of the north-east meeting people and working on stories and, without a doubt, leading the choir and volunteering with UMCB has given me the confidence to present and speak in public. The internship opportunity offered to me through the University, was also a great opportunity to meet different people, develop communication skills and gain valuable professional experience."
Bangor University was also placed 47th in the latest Guardian League Tables for 2019, and is among the top 10 universities in the UK for six subjects taught at the university according to the Complete University Guide for 2019. The last National Student Survey results also revealed that 13 degree courses at Bangor University achieved 100% satisfaction rates from the students, and nine general subject areas have also achieved 100% satisfaction, placing them at the top of their subject table in the UK.
