Wales' future research leaders at Bangor 'Lab'

Thirty academics identified as the future research leaders in Wales are attending a Welsh Crucible 'Lab' session at Bangor University on 26 - 27th July 2012.

The Welsh Crucible is a St. David’s Day Group  and Higher Education Funding Council for Wales funded initiative to support the professional and leadership development for the future research leaders of Wales.  This third ‘Lab’ Welsh Crucible is hosted by Bangor University and Aberystwyth University, and takes place in Bangor University’s Hugh Owen Hall.

The event will bring together 30 selected researchers from the five St David's Day Welsh Universities (Aberystwyth, Bangor, Cardiff, Glamorgan, Swansea) for the last of the three intensive two-day workshops. The workshops comprise inspiring guest speakers, seminars, skills sessions and informal discussions.

Professor David Shepherd, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Enterprise at Bangor University, explained his enthusiasm for the Welsh Crucible programme, saying:
 "I have long held a belief that collaboration between researchers and entrepreneurs of all disciplines is absolutely key to successful innovation. The Welsh Crucible is an excellent example of this approach in action and the results from last year's initial programme demonstrate that this exciting approach to research and development in Wales is creating the leaders and innovators that will help to secure the future of Wales' knowledge economy."
