Professor Lucy Kuncheva (professor of Computer Science) will present her work on pattern recognition. Pattern Recognition, Machine Learning, Neural Networks, Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence are different but highly intertwined facets of the same old quest to understand and mimic human and nature. This talk will give a bird’s eye view of the concept of pattern recognition. It will walk through past and current developments using demos and examples. Finally, it will discuss potential applications of pattern recognition to the area of animal behaviour and will cover our attempts to use PR methods to recognise individual animals in video clips.
