Dr Dave Perkins
Reader in Computer Science / Director of Teaching and Learning
Overview
Dave graduated from the University College of North Wales, Bangor in 2000 with a Master of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering. He then received his PhD in Optoelectronics from Bangor in 2004. Dave went on to lead a Worcestershire based IT consultancy firm for 5 years until in 2008 he was appointed as a Lecturer of Electronic Engineering at Coleg Llandrillo. He gained a Post Graduate Certificate of Education from the University of Newport in 2012.
Dave returned to Bangor University in 2012 where he took the role of Technocamps (www.technocamps.com) Regional Coordinator. In 2015 he was appointed as a Lecturer in Computer Science, and the Director of Teaching and Learning in 2016 for the School of Computer Science. He received a Senior Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy, and, in 2015 and a Bangor Univeristy Teaching Fellowship in 2016.
Dave is North West Wales Computing at Schools (CAS) Hub Leader (www.computingatschool.org.uk), an organization setup to support and develop education of Computer Science.
Dave is also the University lead for Technology and Innovation in Teaching (since 2014) within the Centre for Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT). This role is to develop and assist in the use of new technologies across the institution and to encourage innovation in teaching using open educational practice. He also leads the Learner Analytics porject within the University, under which he supervises Post Graduate research.
He has a keen interest in the develeopment of teaching of Computer Science. He champions innovation and development of new approaches to teaching and learning. His interests also include developing technologies and using these to repurposing old-technologies in exciting ways.
