Overview
To familiarise students with the concept of financial management with an emphasis on the modern fundamentals of corporate financial decision making with special reference to investment, corporate capital structures and corporate valuations.
The course will cover the following:
• Introduction to financial management • Business taxation and its financial implications • Concepts of free cash flow • Profit planning, proforma financial statements and cash budgets • Time value of money • Bond and equity valuation • Risk and returns • Cost of capital • Financial decision making
Assessment Strategy
-threshold -D- to D+ (40-49%): No major omissions or inaccuracies in the deployment of information/skills. Some grasp of theoretical/conceptual/practical elements. Integration of theory/practice/information present intermittently in pursuit of the assessed work's objectives.
-good -B- to B+ (60-69%): Very good performance Most of the relevant information accurately deployed. Good grasp of theoretical/conceptual/practical elements. Good integration of theory/practice/information in pursuit of the assessed work's objectives. Evidence of the use of creative and reflective skills.

-another level-C- to C+ (50-59%): Much of the relevant information and skills mostly accurately deployed. Adequate grasp of theoretical/conceptual/practical elements. Learning Outcomes
- Analyse real-life financial situations using concepts, frameworks, and theories to evaluate financial statements using financial analytical tools, including the implications of taxation on a company's financial situation.
- Explain the characteristics, components, and competencies of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
- Prepare short-term operational budgets for given scenarios to consequently provide appropriate recommendations that solve financing difficulties and evaluate the effectiveness of those recommendations
- Apply financial concepts and tools to real-life financing scenarios, including the time value of money, corporate and debt securities valuation, capital budgeting, investment decisions, corporate capital structure decisions, and dividend policies.

Description
Students will take an unseen 3 hour-long examination paper. The paper will consist of two sections that will test the student’s ability to involve financial calculations, capital budgeting and valuations, including interpretations of topics that were discussed.

Students will be expected to write a 1000 words essay, discussing a particular topic related to the subject in sufficient depth. Students are expected to demonstrate analytical understanding of the topic and support their answers with examples/evidence from the literature.
