CELT CPD workshop: Good practice in Welsh medium and bilingual teaching
Speakers: Dr Myfanwy Davies & Dr Huw Pritchard, Cardiff University
Higher education has a central role to play in achieving the Welsh Government's goal of reaching one million speakers by 2050. Bangor University is the main provider of Welsh-medium education and has been developing innovative methods for Welsh medium teaching for over a century.
However, the numbers opting for Welsh-medium Higher Education across Wales have fallen and students choosing Welsh medium options in Bangor are few despite employers' demands for graduates with professional-level Welsh.
This session will outline the concept, techniques and effects of translanguaging. It will include a live interview with Dr. Huw Pritchard from Cardiff University's School of Law and Politics to discuss over a decade of planning and growing Welsh and bilingual provision there. The session will also include a report on the early results of a research project led by Bangor University, examining perceptions of Welsh and bilingual learning, assessment and support approaches among bilingual students who are not currently opting for Welsh language provision.
Session Language: Cymraeg
