Each year International Women's Day (8th March) is celebrated across the world to mark the achievements of women as well as to raise awareness of ongoing gender inequalities. Bangor University, in collaboration with Cymru Women’s Sport, is joining the 2025 celebrations with an exciting event looking at Women Leaders in Sport.
The event will be led by Laura McAllister (Professor of Public Policy and the Governance of Wales at the Wales Governance Centre, Cardiff University, and Honorary Fellow at Bangor), Vice-present of UEFA and a former Wales football international and team captain with 24 caps.
Laura will be joined by a diverse panel of women from a range of sports and careers:

Hannah Powell - Commonwealth Games Athlete, Weightlifting Coach, and Business Support Officer at Weightlifting Wales.

Sophie Harrison - Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Science and Director of Women's Health and Performance Knowledge Exchange group, School of Psychology & Sport Science, Bangor University.

Kate Hannon - Cymru Women’s Sport Board member and Director of Fearless Women.

Tricia Sterling - Head Coach for Wales Netball U15s Academy and Head of School of Education, Bangor University.
The panel will reflect on the progress that has been made towards gender equality in Sport, the journeys and challenges that still lay ahead and the critical role that women leaders play in this.
All are welcome to this free event. There will also be an opportunity to network and connect on how we can enhance Women's Sport in Wales.
