Migrantation in Liverpool: Then and now

Marzana Kamal will discuss a brief historical analysis of the African diaspora and conditioning of contemporary Muslim presence in Liverpool. The talk will begin with a discussion on the African slave trade, construction of ‘safe’ and ‘unsafe’ places and end with a discussion on the experiences of contemporary Muslim migrants in the city.
Marzana Kamal is a post-doctoral teaching fellow at Liverpool Hope University, where she teaches at the school of social sciences. Dr Kamal completed her PhD in Sociology and Social Policy from Bangor University in 2020. For her doctoral research she studied the impact of male labour migration on women in Bangladesh.
