Making Connections

Here are some of our tips on how to use the web, apps and social media to make connections with your preferred university.

Online or virtual events

Many universities run online or virtual events. These are a great way for you to connect with current students, lecturers and other staff and are the next best thing to attending an open day in person. These types of events range from virtual open days - featuring live links, videos, 360 tours - to live chat based events with Q+A sessions. Topics covered can range from course information and student life to student finance and accommodation.

Follow universities on social media

You can find out the latest news and keep track of any important information, like open day dates for example, by looking at university social media accounts/pages.

Instagram, TikTok and YouTube channels are also an excellent source of all kinds of videos – from student videos to course specific one. And look out for location photos and videos so that you can see what the campus and surrounding area is like.

Chat with students online

Many universities allow you to connect with students online, either on their own website or through the Unibuddy platform on the UCAS website. Current students have been in your shoes and can offer great advice about studying, student life, accommodation and much more. Some universities also offer Community Group Chat platforms. If you apply to Bangor University and are made an offer, you're invited to join our offer holder community on our Bangor CampusConnect app, where you'll be able to chat to our student ambassadors and connect with other offer holders.

Bring all your research together

Once you’ve finished your research and you’re happy with your university and course choices, make sure that you’ve got all the information you need saved in one place. You can then bring everything together and weigh up your options before deciding on your final choices for your UCAS Application.
