Ben Pepler - Lecturer in Adult Nursing

I’ve just started a PhD, investigating how older LGBT people experience and navigate care in community settings. LGBT people often feel marginalised and do not have their voices heard or their social and sexual histories accounted for, which leaves them vulnerable to a range of negative factors such as discrimination, social isolation, and stigma. A variety of inequalities in terms of provision and access to care is more often than not provided through a heterosexual perspective.

As there is growing evidence to suggest that older LGBT adults are forced to conform to a heteronormative culture of care, this research aims to highlight their experiences and provide a greater voice with which to contribute to the wider discussion around older LGBT care provision.
