The first talk (13:00-14:00) will feature Dr Joshua Andrews and Ms Rachel Healand-Sloan as they examine the phenomenon of Heartstopper. This discussion will explore the cultural impact of both the beloved graphic novel and its Netflix adaptation, reflecting on why the series has captivated audiences around the world and what it reveals about contemporary society.
Following that (14:00-15:00), Dr Mari Elin Wiliam and Dr Gareth Evans-Jones will shift the focus to the powerful relationship between books, animals, and human ethics. Using Melanie Joy's influential book, Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs, and Wear Cows as a springboard, they will explore the philosophical and psychological dynamics of our often contradictory attitudes toward animals.
The final talk (15:00-16:00), featuring Ms Lisa Sparkes and Dr Gareth Evans-Jones, will take a darker turn, delving into the psychology and philosophy of serial killers. In particular, they will explore the provocative question of whether a certain serial killer "went too far," inviting a philosophical reflection on moral boundaries and human behaviour.
This promises to be a fascinating afternoon filled with diverse and thought-provoking discussions. All are welcome to attend, whether you're a seasoned philosopher or simply curious about these unique topics. Don’t miss this opportunity to engage with leading scholars in the heart of Caernarfon!
