International Round Table at Bangor
On 13-14 November, 2014, representatives of bodies in England, Scotland and Ireland who are engaged in the study of estates were welcomed to a round table discussion at Bangor University. Amongst them were researchers into the history of estates, archivists and those who specialise in presenting the resulting interpretations in the context of the ‘heritage’ industry.
The aim of the meeting was to introduce and discuss developments within academic and heritage fields and to promote international co-operation between different institutions and bodies.
The meeting was opened by the Vice-chancellor, Professor John Hughes who had taken a prominent part in the establishment of The Centre for the Study of Historic Irish Houses and Estates at Maynooth University when he was President there.
The meeting was a success, and several important decisions were made in order to promote international co-operation. It was decided to hold a further roud-table at Dundee during March 2015, and to develop the theme of The Recreational Landscape.
