Peter Lord: ‘Portreadu pobl Môn’ [‘Portraying the People of Anglesey’]

The Institute for the Study of Welsh Estates, in partnership with the Anglesey Antiquarian Society and Gwynedd Archaeological Trust is delighted to announce details of a special guest lecture at Bangor University's stand at this year’s National Eisteddfod of Wales. The Lecture takes place at 12.15pm on Friday, 11 August 2017. 

Peter Lord’s lecture will focus on the rich visual cultural heritage of Anglesey, reflecting on the intricate relationships between image, landscape and identity.

Peter is Wales’ leading art historian, author of the highly acclaimed ‘Visual Culture of Wales’ book series and more recently The Tradition: A New History of Welsh Art (2016).

The Institute for the Study of Welsh Estates is a new research centre based at Bangor University which promotes innovative research into the history, culture and landscapes of Wales through the prisms of estates, and the collections they generated over the course of their existence. 

The landed estates of Anglesey exerted an immense influence over the visual characteristics of the island, ranging from the architecture and artwork associated with the island’s country houses, through to the appearance and schemes of commemoration at churches, and the shape and character landscapes and communities. 

Members of the public attending the Eisteddfod are warmly invited to attend the lecture, which promises to deliver a thought-provoking visual tour through Anglesey’s culture and heritage.

The presentation will be delivered in Welsh with simultaneous translation into English.
