Where are you from? From Llai, Wrecsam. I live in Chester.

What is the subject of your doctoral research project? The life of the squatter colony on Ruabon Mountain 1845 - 1907. I started my project in December 2023.

What are your main research interests? Squatter colonies.

Tell us about your career so far and what led you to ISWE and your doctoral research project? I am retired after careers in teaching (Ellesmere Port and Newbury), pub ownership (Pembrokeshire) and major incident planning and exercising (NHS).

What is your favourite thing about ISWE and being a doctoral researcher? Learning a lot.

What is your proudest achievement since joining ISWE? Learning a lot!

What is your favourite historical period and why? Nineteenth century at the moment as I am studying the period. 

Your favourite place in Wales? Llai because of my happy childhood in this community.

Can you recommend any books, TV shows, podcasts, blogs that you have enjoyed recently? Canal Boat Diaries on BBC Four – very relaxing!

What are your hobbies or favourite extracurricular activities? Have you got any other interesting projects on the go? Birdwatching, music (I play guitar very badly), caravanning. I also help to run a mining museum and give local history talks.
