Work on transforming College Park to make the area a more accessible, safe and friendly space for the community of Bangor commenced in the spring.
Located at the foot of Bangor University Main Arts building, the College Park is an important green space connecting the University and the City of Bangor.
The first phase of the work involving thinning out some of the wooded area in the park and addressing invasive species has been done. This work has increased visibility, creating better views and a feeling of safety through the lower park, and encourages growth of the plants on the ground, in particular the blue bells.
On Wednesday, 14 September, weather permitting, work on removing the ‘Caban’ will commence and it will be placed in storage with a view to finding a new home for it. In its place will be a small performance area and mini amphitheater which will provide an opportunity for showcasing artistic and performance talent.
The project has been submitted for planning permission and is due to go to committee in October. Once planning has been approved the main works will commence with the aim of completing the works in summer 2023.
The project is funded through Gwynedd Council in partnership with the University through the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns programme.
