Bangor University / BIBF Alumnus of the Year 2023
Bangor Business School has a well-established partnership with the Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance (BIBF). The programme enables students to study a foundation year and the first two years of their qualification in Bahrain and complete their final year in Bangor to gain their undergraduate degree.
In 2016, the Bangor University / BIBF Alumnus of the Year Award was established to recognise an alumnus of the Bangor University and BIBF programme who has achieved professional distinction in their chosen field as well as having contributed to their community.
At this year’s Bangor University alumni reunion held in the BIBF Headquarters in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Hasan Sater was announced as the 2023 Bangor University / BIBF Alumnus of the Year.
Hasan graduated from Bangor University in 2012 with a degree in Banking and Finance. He is Director of Financing Operations Directorate at the Ministry of Finance and National Economy. Hasan has over 10 years of experience spread across various roles - the majority of them within the Ministry - which have included the positions of Chief of Public Revenues Management & Control and Senior Financial Analyst in Public Revenue Development Affairs.
Outside of his professional career, Hasan has been involved in Ayadi Relief, the first relief organisation in Bahrain, founded by a group of Bahraini youths with a passion for volunteer work and desire to help others. Their mission is to provide relief, awareness and rehabilitation to poverty-stricken countries around the world, helping these countries with their health, education and social needs. Hasan held an active role in the Finance department at Ayadi Relief between 2015-2016 and since then has provided ad hoc supporting roles facilitating recruitment processes within the organisation.
Hasan was presented with his award by Prof. Andrew Edwards, Bangor University’s Pro Vice-Chancellor, during the annual reunion in Bahrain on 28th November. The reunion, which every year coincides with the graduation ceremony for the BIBF programme, saw 70 alumni reunited for an evening of catching up with each other and with staff from BIBF and Bangor University. Guests also enjoyed some fun activities over drinks and delicious food overlooking the stunning views over Bahrain Bay.
On receiving the award, Hasan said, “It’s a great honour to be named the Bangor University / BIBF Alumnus of the Year 2023. I have many fond memories of my time at the University and consider the friends I made in Bangor and BIBF to be my second family. The teaching methodologies of both BIBF and Bangor complement each other very well and to be acknowledged by these great institutions is very humbling.”
Emma Marshall, Head of Development and Alumni Relations at Bangor University, said “Many congratulations to Hasan for being named Alumnus of the Year! We at Bangor University and our colleagues at BIBF are very proud of his achievements and to be able to acknowledge him as an excellent example of what can be achieved by our graduates was a great pleasure.”
