Learned Society of Wales awards Dillwyn Medal to Dr Laura Richardson
Dr Laura Richardson, Research Fellow at the School of Ocean Sciences, has received this year’s Dillwyn medal (STEMM) from the Learned Society of Wales.
The three Dillwyn Medals are awarded in recognition of outstanding early career research in three different academic fields: STEMM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine); social sciences, education and business; and the creative arts and humanities.
Laura is a researcher that explores how human activities and natural processes shape ecological communities, with a focus on tropical coral reefs. Laura’s outstanding contributions to the field of marine science exemplify her distinction, leadership, and commitment to societal impact. Her work has garnered significant international attention and demonstrates accomplishment in both research and teaching.
She said, “I am honoured and delighted to have received this medal. It means a great deal to me. My heartfelt thanks go to my science collaborators, mentors, and friends, who have contributed along the way.”
Laura was nominated by Professor Gareth Williams, he said, “It has been inspiring to collaborate with Laura these past few years. Laura is a kind and exceptional scientist and has been a wonderful addition to our research group. I have learnt a lot from her.”
