DSP researchers present at successful TITAN Research Community Event
On Friday 13th September, Dr Luis Vallejo, Jiaxiang He and Omaro Gonem presented research posters at the TITAN Research Community Event which was hosted by the TITAN Telecoms Hub team at the University of Cambridge. In total, 90 researchers from 24 partner institutions were in attendance.
Jiaxiang He presented a research poster on the chaotic digital filter (CDF)-based physical layer security technique for heterogeneous access networks, providing salient features of ‘security-by-design’, ‘openness-by-design’, and ‘dynamic security at the traffic level’.
Omaro Gonem research poster titled ‘Soft-ROADMs with Dual-Arm Drop Elements for Future Fixed-Mobile Converged Access Networks’, this research work proposes and experimentally verifies a novel cost-effective optical switching device with phase-offset-insensitive performance for future fixed and mobile access network convergence in 6G and beyond.
Dr Luis Vallejo presented two research posters ‘Seamlessly Converged Fiber-Wireless Access Networks with Dynamic Sub-wavelength Switching and Tunable Photonic mmWave Generation’ and ‘Centralized Full-Duplex Heterogeneous Access Networks Seamlessly Integrating Fiber, Free-Space Optics and Wireless Networks’
‘Seamlessly Converged Fiber-Wireless Access Networks with Dynamic Sub-wavelength Switching and Tunable Photonic mmWave Generation’ proposes and experimentally demonstrates a cost-effective seamlessly converged fiber-wireless access network using soft-ROADM-enabled dynamic sub-wavelength-level channel switching and free-running laser/envelope detection-based tunable mmWave generation/detection. The proposed technique requires no O-E-O conversions or DSP at intermediate nodes and offers dynamic RRH-controllable mmWave transmission.
‘Centralized Full-Duplex Heterogeneous Access Networks Seamlessly Integrating Fiber, Free-Space Optics and Wireless Networks’ presents a centralized mmWave full-duplex transmission system for a bidirectional heterogeneous access network that combines fiber, free-space optics, and wireless technologies. The system uses free-running lasers for photonics-assisted mmWave generation and upstream transmission, along with envelope detectors at the UEs for LO-free direct down-conversion of received mmWave signals. This approach ensures transparency to mmWave frequencies.
Congratulations to all three and a special congratulations to Jiaxiang who was awarded 2nd of 34 posters exhibited in the best research poster competition.
