An answer to capitalism's failings?
During the first week of April, staff and some students from Lifelong Learning's Community Development Programme will be visiting Marinaleda in Andalusia, Spain. The aim of the visit, organised by Cymru-Cuba and paid for by the participants themselves, is to explore alternative ways of organising community life. There are always lessons to be learnt and for communities in crisis the need for possible alternatives is urgent.
Marinaleda, in impoverished Andalusia, used to suffer terrible hardships. Led by a charismatic mayor, the village declared itself a communist utopia and took farmland to provide for everyone. Could it be the answer to modern capitalism's failings?
