Bangor Old Students’ Association support the Gwyn Thomas Memorial Fund
‘On Wednesday morning, 14 March 2018, an informal though pleasant occasion happened in PJ Hall. There I met up with three of the stalwarts of the Old Students’ Association namely Mrs Annis Milner, Mrs Ella Owens and Mrs Ann Roberts and had our picture taken to record the occasion. Since the society is now disbanded, its members decided to transfer the considerable balance in its bank account to the Professor Gwyn Thomas Memorial Fund. As a previous head of theDepartment of Welsh and one of Bangor’s most eminent ex-students, Gwyn was for many years a loyal member of the society. The memorial fund was launched in the Abergavenny National Eisteddfod in 2016, three months after his death, and since then, generous contributions have been received from his former students, his friends and acquaintances. The fund will enable us to support and reward current students within the Department of Welsh and to keep his name and his legacy alive for future generations.’
Professor Gerwyn Wiliams, Head of the Department of Welsh
Although the Old Students’ Association has come to an end, some members are still contributing to it annually through a standing order. We kindly request that such members contact the Bangor branch of the HSBC to cancel their standing order as soon as possible.
