The School of Social Sciences is hosting a Photography and Poetry Competition as part of the ESRC’s Festival of Social Sciences. There are two categories: 14-18 years and 18+. The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, 1 November 2016.

All photo entries should be accompanied by a caption. There are no rules on the type of device used to take the pictures. Criteria for the competition are: composition, link to the category, and quality of the picture.
All forms of poems are accepted – up to 100 words – poems in English and Welsh will be accepted. Criteria for the competition are: composition, link to the category, and quality of the poem.
Photos and poems will be exhibited online.
All entries need to be sent to Bangor Social Sciences Photo and Poetry Competition 2016, photopoetrycomp@bangor.ac.uk, with the following information:
- Name
- Age range (14-18 or 18+)
- Category submitted
- Caption
- Photo or Poem
- E-mail address
- Phone number (voluntary)
Photos will be judged by a panel and an online exhibition will showcase pictures and the category winners from 7 November 2016 onwards. The panel’s decision is final. By submitting a poem or photograph, entrants agree to their photos and poems being used in the online exhibition.
Conditions for entry:
- Entrants confirm that each individual whose image is featured has given their consent for use of the image for the purpose of the competition.
- By submitting a poem or photograph, entrants agree to their photos and poems being used in the online exhibition and that their name and caption can be published.
- The author retains the copyright of their image, and confirm that the entry is his/her own work.
- The image or poem should not have been published previously elsewhere.
- The entry must not be copied, must not contain any third-party materials and/or content that you do not have permission to use, must not include any trade marks.
- The entry must not show inappropriate or dangerous behaviour, or otherwise be obscene, defamatory, distasteful, offensive, or in breach of any applicable law or regulation, or in breach of any confidentiality obligations owed by you to third parties.
- A maximum of three entries is allowed per entrant.
