Bangor Professor appointed Seafish Deputy Chair
Marine ecologist, Professor Michel Kaiser, of Bangor University, has been appointed to the role of interim Deputy Chair of the Seafish board until March 2012.
Seafish, a Non Departmental Public Body (NDPB), works across all sectors of the seafood industry to promote good quality, sustainable seafood.
Professor Kaiser, who is also acting head of the University’s renowned School of Ocean Sciences, will work closely with interim Chair John Whitehead.
On his appointment Professor Kaiser said: 'The growth of the world's population will put ever increasing pressure on the ability of our oceans to provide a healthy and essential source of protein. Managing our fisheries resources in a sustainable and responsible manner is of paramount importance and Seafish has a critical role to ensure that the seafood industry can meet this challenge'.
Mr Whitehead said: “I’m delighted that Michel has been appointed as deputy chair. Michel has already served more than two years as a board member and brings to the post a wealth of knowledge on fisheries and the marine environment.”
Prof Kaiser’s research interests focus on the effects of human activities on marine ecosystems and communities and how humans respond to the management measures used to restrain these activities.
