Bangor’s gift to aid Japan
Bangor University’s Japanese students have been able to contribute over £7,500 towards Japanese Red Cross Society.
The money was raised through their efforts and that of ‘Bangor for Japan’, in organising events and collecting money at public places, on Bangor High Street, in Caernarfon and at the University.
The money will be used to alleviate the crisis following the earthquakes and tsunami experienced last month.
Atsuchi Kajimoto, on behalf of Bangor for Japan said: “We’d like to thank everybody who contributed for their support. We collected £7535.97, which will be used to help victims to rebuild communities and their lives.”
One of the students, Chie Takahasi said, “We’d like to say a big thank you to everybody for the encouragement that we’ve received. Every donation and message is definitely a great encouragement to people in Japan and us here in Bangor. We’ve been touched by how Japanese students and Japanese culture have been accepted here in Bangor and North Wales.”
The events organised included a Japanese culture workshops and a very successful "Ganbare Nippon! (Don't Give Up, Japan!)" charity event.
