Bangor University Graduation 2012: 14 - 20 July
Over two thousand students will graduate from Bangor University in thirteen ceremonies, running over six days this week (14 -20 July 2012). The students will be joined by friends and family as they celebrate their achievements.
Also joining them at some of the ceremonies will be individuals who are receiving Honorary Fellowships from Bangor University.
"Bangor University has a strong tradition of recognising, with the award of Honorary Fellowships, the achievements of various men and women in different walks of life. This year is no exception. Our Fellows will add great distinction and glamour to the ceremonies at which we also recognise the achievements of our students," said University Registrar, Dr David Roberts.
Honorary Fellows this year include Professor Steve Jones, who is a Professor of Genetics at University College London (UCL), and will be honoured on Saturday, July 14th.
Professor Tony Jones CBE, who has been President of the School of Art, Institute of Chicago 1986-92 and 1996-2008, as well as Professor Malcolm Evans OBE, one of the UK’s most distinguished international lawyers, will receive their honorary fellowships on Monday, July 16th.
Also being honoured on Tuesday, July 17th are Terence David Hands CBE, Director of Clwyd Theatr Cymru, Professor Catherine McKenna who has taught at Harvard since 2005, and was previously at New York University and the City University of New York, and Dr Gwyneth Lewis, who was Wales' National Poet from 2005-06, the first writer to be given the Welsh laureateship. John Gibb Marshall, also known as John Sessions, actor and writer, and Bangor graduate, who has enjoyed a distinguished acting career – starring most recently as Edward Heath in the film The Iron Lady, will also be awarded an Honorary Fellowship for services to drama. The Rt Hon Lord Barry Jones, a former MP for Alyn & Deeside, Coleg Normal graduate and government minister will also be honoured.
Bleddyn Wynn-Jones, plant collector and cultivator at Crûg Farm Nurseries will also be awarded an Honorary Fellowship on Thursday, July 19th.
