Bangor University lecturer's prestigious role at the Urdd Eisteddfod
Dr Rhian Siân Hodges from the School of Social Sciences, Bangor University and Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol has been chosen as the Master of Ceremonies at this year’s Urdd National Eisteddfod in Caerphilly.
This is one of the main ceremonies at the Urdd Eisteddfod, where a crown is presented to the winning entrant in the competition. Dr Hodges was born and bred in Bargoed, Caerphilly, where this year’s Urdd Eisteddfod takes place. The ceremony will be broadcast on S4C on Friday May 29th at 2.30pm.
Dr Hodges said of the honour:
“This year’s Eisteddfod is very personal to me and it’s nice to be able to return to my roots. There is something special about the Welshness of Caerphilly and I’m looking forward to be joining in the celebrations. With thanks to the Welsh medium schools of Caerphilly and the regional Urdd activities in Gwent, I was able to learn Welsh and communicate socially. I’m very excited to be part of the ceremony this year and for the Eisteddfod to be in such a glorious location.”
The Urdd National Eisteddfod is on 25-30 May 2015.
