Bangor University’s First Class Environment
Bangor University’s environmental credentials continue to go from strength to strength. Following an intensive and independent audit of its policies and procedures, the University successfully attained Level 4 of the prestigious Green Dragon Environmental Standard.
This builds on the Level 3 award held for the last two years, and is a significant milestone in the University’s aspiration for Level 5 – the highest Green Dragon award, and for ISO14001 certification.
As well as achieving this accolade, the University also retained its “First Class Honours” degree in the annual People and Planet University Green League.
Vice Chancellor Professor John Hughes said “I’m delighted with the progress that we are making in managing our environmental impacts at Bangor. Only a month after the Student’s Union won three national awards for their environmental achievements, these accomplishments clearly demonstrate that as a University we are taking our environmental responsibilities very seriously indeed”.
Ricky Carter, Environmental Manager added, “This is a truly wonderful achievement. To have remained in the top flight for two successive years, and progressed to Level 4 of the Green Dragon Standard, is a tribute to the teamwork and commitment of staff, students and members of the local community in caring for our local environment. There is still much to do, and our Environmental Management System sets out the route map for even further environmental improvement over the coming years”.
