Boddi Mewn Celfyddyd (Drowning in Art) Conference
Conference of the School of Music and School of Welsh, Bangor University and the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol
13 – 14 June 2015, Urdd Camp Glan Llyn, Llanuwchllyn
Guest Speakers: Dafydd Iwan and Manon Eames
After years of destruction and protest, the water flooded Cwm Celyn in 1965, drowning culture, local history and tradition in its wake.
However, the anger and heartbreak of the nation gave rise not only to a political awakening, but also to an artistic awakening as a generation of Welsh people found means of expressing their contempt through music, poetry, drama and art.
Now, fifty years later, this is an opportunity to collate and appreciate the artistic legacy inspired by the flooding of the valley in a special two-day conference at a unique location near Tryweryn. As part of the conference, there will be an opportunity to visit Tryweryn, as well as to enjoy a selection of the drama commissioned and produced originally by Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru and Clwyd Theatr Cymru, Porth y Byddar by Manon Eames, under the direction of Siwan Llynor, who hails from Bala.
The conference will include lectures delivered by Dafydd Iwan and Manon Eames, and a unique multi-media exhibition documenting the history of the flooding, and the artistic output created in its wake.
For further information, download the conference programme and, should you wish to join us, please download the registration form, complete it and return it to boddi.mewn.celfyddyd@bangor.ac.uk. We look forward to seeing you there!
