Call for a rapid negotiated settlement to the USS pension dispute
The current national dispute results from planned changes to the national pension scheme for university staff, and many of those working at Bangor University will be affected by the proposals.
Bangor University has stated that it is keen for there to be a rapid negotiated settlement to this dispute. Vice-Chancellor, Professor John G. Hughes said: “I support other vice-chancellors who have called for the reopening of national negotiations and I hope that a speedy resolution can be achieved through compromise on both sides”
Any changes to the pension rules will be decided at a national level through the Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC), which brings together an equal number of representatives from Universities UK (UUK) and the University and College Union (UCU).
Meanwhile, Bangor University is doing everything it can to reduce any possible impact the strike could have on students, and in the meantime, the University remains open during this period.
