Come and discover Japan and its culture at a fundraising event this weekend.
A group of Bangor Students will be holding a fundraising event to support the victims of the Tohoku Earthquake at Rathbone Hall, College Road on Saturday, March 26th between 2pm and 6pm. There will be a series of exciting activities such as Japanese culture workshops featuring calligraphy, Origami, face-painting and try a kimono as well as live performances, a charity market, a fashion show with outfits from all over the world and raffle.
The “Bangor for Japan” relief fund will also be collecting money around Bangor over the next few weeks -to raise money for the Japanese Red Cross Society.
Bangor for Japan have already held a very successful "Ganbare Nippon! (Don't Give Up, Japan!)" charity event on Saturday 19th March, at the St. John's Methodist Church where visitors had the chance to listen to Taiko Drums and take part in some Origami paper folding.
One of the organisers said: “Firstly we would like to give a huge thank you to all those who made donations to the raffle and tombola prizes. Thanks to Bangor for Japan and all the other folks who came to help out and of course an enormous thank you to everyone who came along and joined in the fun. A fantastic day was had by all, drums were banged, paper was folded and Kimonos were worn creating a total of £860 for the Japanese Red Cross (not bad for a five hour event!)
“The donations for the raffle were so many and so fantastic that we are hoping to use the rest of them at some kind of future event. The raffle will be drawn on the 2nd of April so it is not too late to get some tickets so please contact us on the address below!”
Members will be collecting donations up until Sunday, April 10th at the following locations:
• Mon-Fri: 12:00-14:00 at Morrisons
• Sat: 11:00-16:00 at High Street and Morrisons
• Sun: 12:00-14:00 at Morrisons
