Concert represents Bangor University’s ties with the East and stellar work of performers and composers

A concert will take place at Pontio Studio this Thursday, 11 April 7.30pm to capture the synergies of two distinct cultures and highlight the wealth of talent within Bangor University’s School of Music.

Organised by Richard Craig, Head of Performance at the School of Music, the concert will feature students and teaching staff from the University and explore the theme of nature.

“The theme of ‘nature’ or the elements, is a strong idea that binds both the East and the West together – both cultures often reflect upon the epic nature of their surroundings, and here in Wales we are fortunate enough to have nature within our reach. The composers we will perform have made their own commentary as to what nature means or comes to symbolise to them, and we will be performing new works by Welsh composers as well as having a guest performance of traditional Chinese music from one of our students, Yiwen Guo, on Guzheng.”

Performers will also include Mared Emlyn (Harp tutor in Music and composer), Sioned Roberts (Clarinet tutor in Music and composer), Prof. Andy Lewis Professor of Composition, and PhD student in Music/freelance lecturer/teacher, Katherine Betteridge.

Richard Craig added, “All those taking part in the concert are established performers and composers who take part in concerts throughout Wales, the UK and further afield. This concert represents the ongoing cultural exchange in Bangor University’s School of Music, its ties with the East and also the stellar work of the performers and composers that teach here and work in the profession.”
