Confucius Centre hosts Chinese Costumes Exhibition
Following the successful launch of the Confucius Institute at Bangor University earlier this academic year, the Confucius Institute has embarked on an interesting and varied programme of activities to raise awareness and understanding of Chinese culture.
An exhibition of Chinese National Dress takes place in Rathbone Teaching Room 5, Rathbone Building, College Road on Thursday 29 November at 6.00.
National dress refers to traditional costumes of an ethnic group. Due to different living environment and cultural differences, Chinese costumes developed along many various styles in different ethnic minorities. Han constitutes the main group of Chinese. Its traditional national costume is hanfu. Cheongsam is one of the traditional costumes for females, derived from Manchu women's traditional clothing, and improved by Han women during the first half of the twentieth century. It was identified as one of the national dresses by the government of the Republic of China in 1929. After the Republic of China, women in Shanghai and Beijing improved the clothing design.
There are 56 minority groups in China.
