Dawn’s flying high after graduating!

Dawn Thompson from Holyhead left school in Singapore at 17 with a handful of CSEs. Due to her father being in the RAF there wasn’t much opportunity to go on to further education at that time, so when the family returned to the UK, she started work as a receptionist with a horticultural firm.

Now working as a Personal Assistant to the Programme Director of North Wales Clinical Psychology Programme at Bangor University, Dawn graduated recently with a BA (hons) in Social Studies.

“I always thought I could do better, but never had the courage to pursue it further. It was when I went with my daughter to a university open day and sat in the lecture theatre listening to the details of the course she wanted to do that I realised “this is for me”.  I came back and enrolled with the Lifelong Learning Department at Bangor to do a part-time degree.”

“The staff at Lifelong Learning gave me inspiration, knowledge and encouragement all the way through my part-time studying.  Nothing was too much trouble, and help was always at hand whenever I needed it.  I cannot thank the staff and tutors enough for the opportunity I’ve had in realising my ambition to gain this qualification.”

Like many Lifelong Learning students at Bangor University, once they have caught the learning bug there is no stopping them, Dawn is now embarking on a Masters degree in Leadership and Management.
