Dr Edward Jones discusses the impact of bank branch closures in local media
In the build-up to the Welsh Assembly election, BBC Wales held a number of programmes looking at economic and social issues in the country and the challenges facing new Assembly Members.
Along with representatives from other Welsh institutions, Dr Edward Jones, Lecturer in Economics, was invited to participate in BBC Radio Wales’s Country Focus programme to discuss these issues and challenges. A key point raised by Dr Jones was the impact of bank branch closure on the rural economy. Following this appearance, he was invited to participate in a live interview on the BBC’s Good Morning Wales programme to comment on figures obtained by the BBC on bank closures in the UK. Five of the top ten areas losing banks are in Wales. Dr Edward Jones was asked to explain the trend in branch closure and the impact this was having on businesses and the economy.
