Eurliw's on the way to realizing her dream

Eurliw Hydref Lloyd WilliamsEurliw Hydref Lloyd Williams, 21, will graduate from Bangor University this week with a degree in Law with Welsh.

Eurliw, who studied at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor before coming to Bangor, said: "It feels wonderful to be graduating this year and gain recognition for the fruits of my labor. All the hard work has certainly paid off and I'm looking forward to a special day that will be remembered forever.

"It is the culmination of years of hard work, not only during my time at University, but all the previous years of education that has lead to a career at the University. It will be a day of reminiscing, sharing experiences and talking about our plans for the future. Everyone will be able to delight in each other's success, and it is a golden opportunity to say goodbye to your fellow students, before everyone then disappears.

"The provision of Welsh medium modules and seminars are very important to me, and Bangor has much to offer. I was also delighted that I was able to study Welsh in conjunction with the Law because I am well aware that both schools are recognized as successful and friendly. Without a doubt, the fact that I also received an Excellence Scholarship from the University confirmed my decision.

"I would like to express my sincere thanks to the staff of the Law School and the School of Welsh for their guidance, support and friendship during my time at the University.

"Throughout my time at Bangor I've been going home to work at my part-time job in a hotel. I have worked there for over four and a half years and my employers have been very supportive of my academic career. I feel that working as well as studying is very important, not only to earn money but also to draw your mind off your academic work for a few hours. You can then go back to your work with a fresh mind. It is also an opportunity to be part of the working world and get perspective on life outside the University.

"I was a member of the Staff and Students Law School Council throughout my three years in Bangor, representing my peers and had the opportunity to share ideas regarding how to develop and improve. Since I received a scholarship from the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol (CCC) to study in Welsh, as part of that, I went for two weeks of work experience at a solicitor's office in Porthmadog. I enjoyed this experience very much, and I'm very grateful to the CCC for organizing it.

"The highlight for me is to be successful at the end of the three years. Receiving my degree will ensure the continuation of my ambition to pursue a career in law.

About the future, Eurliw added: "My dream since I was ten years old is to be a lawyer someday. Graduating from Bangor University means that I have achieved one of the first steps. The next step for me is attending the College of Law in Chester from September, by studying the LPC - Law Practitioner Certificate. The hope then is to have the opportunity to work with a law firm in north Wales, as my area and language is very important to me. I hope I will not have to leave north Wales to ensure a job and miss the opportunity and pleasure of serving my clients in through the medium of English and Welsh.”
