Forum Theatre and Community Development
Lifelong Learning's MA Community Development students have organised and are hosting a Forum Theatre event with partners GISDA and the GISDA Forum Theatre group, Sophie McKeand the new Young People's Laureate Wales, Peter Salami of the Bangor Probation Office and Yvonne Stillie a Media Studies student in Bangor University - who will play the part of the Joker. The aim of the day's process is to to explore attitudes amongst and towards young people and to get differing groups engaging for change.
The day's event is being held at Bangor City Football Club and is by invitation only. The part time students, all of whom work across the region in various community focused roles, will be critically analysing the day's activities and evaluating the impact of the work. The report will be fed back to the participants and other relevant, interested bodies in order to encourage the change needed. Peter Salami believes that perceptions of young people often determine what type and quality of service they receive by professionals and practitioners. Therefore it is vital that these adults become aware of their own preconcetions and actively do all that they can to minimise any negative perceptions and work openly with young people to effect positive change.
