International writers visit the Creative Writing seminar
The close association between Translators' House Wales and the School of Welsh at Bangor continues with two visits to the School by writers in residence at Ty Newydd, Llanystumdwy. In December 2012 the Creative Writing seminar had the pleasure of welcoming the Finnish author and poet, Harry Salmenniemi, who came to discuss and read his work. Harry talked of the problems facing an avant-garde writer in a small country such as Finland, and discussed recent work that was composed in conjunction with contemporary Finnish musicians.
In January 2013 the Creative Writing seminar series reopened with a visit by the Rumanian writer and translator, Emilia Ivancu. Emilia gave a talk on the censorship experienced by a great many Rumanian writers during the Communist era, and also read from her own work, including pieces composed on a trip to Bardsey island during her most recent visit to Wales.
The semester continues with workshops on poetry and a lecture by renowned poet Emyr Lewis on 22 February.
