Launch - School of Philosophy and Religious Studies
Many staff and administrators from the College of Arts & Humanities came to the launch of the new School of Philosophy and Religion in the Council Chamber on Friday October 12th. Members of the Council attended and the Vice-Chancellor welcomed all who had been able to come to the event. Dr Eryl W Davies, Head of the new School, said that although this was a new initiative the School was being built on sturdy foundations, since religion (under various guises) had been taught at Bangor for well over a century, and philosophy had been taught here until the early 1980s, so there was a long and distinguished tradition of teaching both subjects at the university. Dr Davies thanked the members of the Council and the Vice-chancellor for their support as well as the administrative staff who had worked behind the scenes to ensure that the launch of the new School was a success.
