Lecturer to cycle the country for charity
A Bangor University lecturer is tackling the A470 to Cardiff this week – by bike. Llion Iwan from the School of Creative Studies & Media is raising money to cancer treatment ward Alaw at Ysbyty Gwynedd.
“Ianto was only 41 and died two days before his wedding day from cancer after a short illness. This was a journey he talked about, so we’re doing it to remember him and try and raise money for the ward which were magnificent in their treatment of him,” said Llion.
Another Bangor graduate, Dylan Halliday – now the Editor of Y Cymro – is also tackling the journey.
Ianto, a civil engineer, was originally from Talysarn, and lived in Caernarfon with his fiancé Sharon Griffiths. He was just 41 years old when he died from bowel cancer.
The Gwynedd Council worker passed away just two days before he was due to marry Sharon at Portmeirion. Over 400 friends and family members attended his funeral.
Llion added: “Ianto was such a happy and fun person to be around, he was planning for the future with Sharon before he died and had been working on a new family home at Pontllyfni.”
