Louis celebrates with a First!
Louis Rhys Waters, 21, from Pencoed, Bridgend, is graduating from Bangor University with a first class degree in Journalism and Media Studies this week.
Louis said: “Graduation is a great achievement! You just want to relive the past three years all over again, but at the same time I wouldn’t change anything.
“I was delighted to find out that I was graduating with a first. I would have been happy with a 2:1 but after getting an A in my digital journalism dissertation I was ecstatic.
“While I call Wales my home I’ve lived abroad for a number of years. Before coming to Bangor University I lived in Spain for around 3 years. I have also lived in Japan and Singapore.”
About Bangor, he added: “I planned to go for an interview at Bangor but couldn’t make it because of the volcanic eruption in Iceland. As soon as I arrived I loved the feel of the place. I started to gain an interest in journalism and the University seemed perfect to facilitate this.
“One of highlights of my three years at Bangor was during my second year when I had the opportunity to interview Amy Lamé and Peter Tatchell, both active human rights supporters. Also I was an intern at Real Radio Wales which gave me a new insight into journalistic practices.
“I was also a member of Unity Bangor and became very interested in Bangor Students’ Union after becoming a General Senator.
About the future, Louis added: “In September I will be studying a Masters in Broadcast Journalism, after which I will hopefully pursue a career as a trainee journalist.”
