REF 2014 confirms world-class quality
The Head of the School of English Literature has welcomed the results of the 2014 Research Excellence Framework.
Professor Helen Wilcox, Head of the School of English Literature, said that the results confirm the world-class quality of the School’s publications in literary criticism and creative writing.
“According to the panel of experts, the average grade for the School’s ‘outputs’ or published work is an impressive 3.05 (out of 4) – an outstanding result considering that every member of our teaching staff was entered for the REF as a researcher, “ said Prof Wilcox.
“Indeed, a very substantial proportion, 36%, of our publications is considered worthy of the highest accolade, 4*, indicating major research of international significance. This outcome places us higher than the equivalent departments in some of England’s most distinguished universities, and establishes the School of English Literature at Bangor University among the top third of English departments in the UK.
“Taken alongside our excellent results in the recent National Student Survey – which included 100% for the teaching skills of the creative writing tutors, and placed us second among English departments in Wales – this is a fitting tribute to the splendid work of my colleagues, and the fine education offered to our students.”
