Society for Renaissance Studies Annual Welsh Lecture
The School of English is delighted to host the Society for Renaissance Studies Third Annual Welsh Lecture on Thursday 24th April 2014 at 5.15 pm in MALT. It will be delivered by Professor Jennifer Richards (Newcastle) and Professor Richard Wistreich (Royal Northern College of Music) on the topic of ‘Renaissance Voices’.
Professor Richards has published extensively on early modern literature and culture and is an expert in rhetoric, the history of ideas and political thought, the history of reading, and the medical humanities. Professor Wistreich is an internationally-regarded scholar and performer whose research focusses upon the cultural and social history of music-making in early modern Europe. They are currently lead investigators on an AHRC-funded research network, ‘Voices and Books in Early Modern England, 1500-1800’, which unearths the social practices of reading aloud in the early modern period and how reading connects to other forms of orality.
The Society for Renaissance Studies is the main body for people in Britain and Ireland who are interested in all aspects of the Renaissance period. Each year, the Welsh branch organizes the Annual Welsh Lecture, which brings some of the foremost scholars within their disciplines to Wales.
