Spotlight on Royal works of art

The annual T. Rowland Hughes Public Lecture at Bangor University ‘The Royal Collection on show’ takes place on Thursday 12 November at 7.00pm in Bangor University’s Main Arts Lecture Theatre.

The Lecture will this year focus on one of the largest art collections in the world – the Royal Collection, which is displayed in various royal palaces and is held in trust by the Queen for the people of the United Kingdom.

The Royal Collection is exceptionally rich and varied, containing Old Master drawings, Victorian watercolours, Italian Renaissance paintings, British portraits, as well as porcelain, jewellery, tapestry, clocks, sculptures and even the crown jewels!

Jonathan Marsden, the Director of the Royal Collection, will explain how the art collected by various kings and queens since the time of Henry VIII has been displayed to the public, and the business of visiting it. Mr Marsden has worked with the Royal Collection for nearly 20 years, first as Deputy Director of the Queen’s Works of Art, and as Director since 2010.

All are welcome to attend the free lecture, and no booking is necessary.
