Thursday's Eisteddfod Activities - Music takes centre stage

More music on Bangor University stand at the National Eisteddfod

Bangor University’s School of Music takes charge of the activities at Bangor University’s stand on the Eisteddfod field every Thursday, and this year’s no exception, with a full day of musical activities and performances  to suit every age and taste.

The activities begin with a Composition Workshop with composer and Senior Lecturer, Pwyll ap Siôn and Osian and Branwen  from the group, Siddi, and pupils from Ysgol Uwchradd Glan Clwyd. This begins at 11.00.

A live performance by  the popluar singer Ynyr Llwyd,  follows between 12pm-12.30pm. Ynyr, who is also performingat the Eisteddfod, comes from the Denbigh area and graduated with an MA from Bangor University’s School of Music in 2012.

The pupils at Ysgol Dewi Sant, Rhyl  have been busy decorating minature pianos especially for the Eisteddfod,  with guidance from artist, Rhian Price. There’s an opportunity to play the pianos in a Little Pianos Workshop with musician, Manon Llwyd, at 12.45pm.

Renowned harpist, Elinor Bennett  gives a Harp Masterclass at 2.00 in an event sponsored by Canolfan Gerdd William Mathias.

A performance by  Siddi, a folk duo from Llanuwchllyn, who are fast becoming one of the most popular bands in Wales, closes the activities and begins at 3.30.
Gwawr Ifan,  a Coleg Cymraeg lecturer at Bangor University’s School of Music,  who specialises in  Music and health and well-being said: “The day reflects the School of Music. We’re a popular School althoughsmall, and we offer courses that can be studied entirely in Welsh.  The choice of modules makes it possible to study everything from Stravinsky to the Sex Pistols, and getting involved in options such as composing for film and television or gaining experience in arts administration, community music, music publishing and music in health.”
