Torch-Bearer Jamie appeals for Volunteers
Jamie Turley, Volunteer Co-ordinator for Gwynedd Council Events TeamFirst year Bangor student Jamie Turley, who is selected as an Olympic Torch bearer on the 29th May as the flame passes his home town of Ffynnongroyw, has a busy few weeks ahead of him. Already a Young Ambassador for Sport in Wales, and with previous volunteering experience, he has been selected as a Volunteer Co-ordinator for Gwynedd Council Events Team.
He is now looking for young volunteers to assist him with two exciting projects:
The first relates to the Olympic Torch relay event in Bangor due to be held on 28th May 2012. He is recruiting volunteers from among the county’s young people, including Bangor University students. The main event at Y Faenol, on the outskirts of Bangor, on the evening of Monday 28 May, is hosted by the Council and the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games, and will include live music from a mainstream artist.
Jamie, who is studying Sport Science (Outdoor Activities) says: “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the people of our area to experience the power of the Olympics in their area. Volunteers will gain valuable experience of the event as well as completing two certificated courses.
Jamie is also coordinating volunteering for the Wakestock Festival. Taking place on the weekend of 6th July, the weekend is renowned for its celebration of wakeboarding and live music.
