Lloyd Jones Award for Entrepreneurship

In early 2000 an award was established by Mr Lloyd Jones, an American, whose parents were from the area surrounding Bangor. Mr Jones has established the award to promote and support entrepreneurship amongst local Bangor University students who will contribute to the technological aspects of the North Wales economy once graduated.

The students’ registered home addresses must be within the north Wales area and that they have secured local employment/business venture going forward.

An award of £1500  is made at graduation to one male and one female student from the Product Design course.

About Mr Lloyd Jones

Mr Lloyd Jones was one of the Product Design course’s longest supporters. Lloyd Jones was born in 1924 in Kingston, Pennsylvania to Welsh parents who emigrated from Wales.

A successful businessman, and an active member of his community, Mr. Lloyd Jones saw an opportunity to contribute to the development of others by establishing a charitable endowment in the National Welsh-American Foundation in 1986.

The charitable endowment would provide an award grant to outstanding young entrepreneurs graduating from Bangor University.  Since 2000, over 40 students have received awards amounting to close to $100,000 as the endowment continues to grow based on Mr. Lloyd Jones’s continuing contributions and investments made over many years.

Sadly, Mr Lloyd Jones passed away in April of 2022, but the charitable fund he set up continues under the guide of the National Welsh-American Foundation and his son Mr Lloyd H. Jones. Read the full obituary.
